Constructions

Infrastructure is never finished. In a rapidly changing world Bam International formulate answers to complex infrastructure issues

City Bridge Nijmegen, the Netherlands

The city bridge Nijmegen is a new bridge across the river Waal, built to improve the accessibility of the city and to improve traffic flow around the wider city area. The bridge was built at a historical location known as “De Oversteek” (“The Crossing”), where American soldiers crossed the river to secure the existing Waal bridge during the operation Market Garden.

Dikkowita Fishery Harbour, Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources commissioned the construction of a new fishery port at the south-eastern coast of Sri Lanka, about 6 km north of Colombo Port. The new Dikkowita Fishery Port serves as an operation base for local fishermen and provides sheltered berthing for approximately 500 fishing vessels, up to 40m in length and is one of South East Asia’s largest fishery harbours.

Iron ore loading berth and wharf extension AP5

Fortescue Metals Group awarded the BAM the design and construction contract for a fifth iron ore loading berth at its Anderson Point Facility (AP5) in Port Hedland, Western Australia. The works included the design and construction of a 306-metre long wharf extension, seven berthing dolphins, and the supply and installation of wharf conveyor modules, with the existing berths remaining fully operational.

Cooling Water Intake Qafco, Messaieed, Qatar

The QAFCO Fertiliser Company plans to extent its facilities on the east coast of Qatar. BAM carried out the detailed design of the cooling water system required for the expansion. The design included a jetty, an intake- and outfall structure as well as a pump station and weir structure. In addition special measures for scour protection have been designed for the intake and outfall structure.

Pile Driving Analysis and Dynamic Load Testing

First there is the pile design. Bam International can design and advise on the required pile type and length. Secondly the pile needs to be driven. Bam International can advise on the optimum driving hammer for the job. Pile driveability analysis is carried out based on the pile and soil data. Thirdly, when the pile is installed, predicted driving performance and pile capacity needs to be verified. Delta Marine Consultants offers PDA and DLT to monitor driving and evaluate pile capacity.

Equipment

PDA and DLT testing is carried out using 2 sensors, measuring strain and acceleration, bolted to the pile.

Pile Driving Analysis

PDA testing can performed on prefab concrete piles and steel piles.

Dynamic Load Testing

DLT testing can be performed on prefab concrete piles, steel piles, cast-in-situ concrete piles and wooden piles.

Marine Structural Engineering

In order to best meet our Clients’ needs the company is organised as a project organisation with several civil and marine structural engineering teams each with a focus on certain Client-Market-Product combinations.

  • FE analysis of steel and concrete structures
  • Concrete design of heavy civil structures and mass concrete
  • Pre-cast concrete design
  • Durability and maintenance issues
  • Design of under water (tremie) concrete slabs

Coastal Engineering & Water Management

Coastal engineering, is one of the core expertise areas of Bam International Abu-Dhabi. The interaction between land and water creates complex environments. Coastal areas and river banks have always been important to trade and are therefore vital links in the economic chain.

Our coastal teams has extensive experience in design of coastal structures and reclamations. Expert skills include for example:

  • Breakwater and Shore protection design
  • Morphology
  • Wave action and tidal studies
  • Dredging and land reclamation

Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical Engineering is a fundamental part of Bam International Abu-Dhabi design process. It is the application of soil and rock mechanics to the design of structures on or in the ground. It is a broad discipline consisting of several area’s including site characterisation, parameter evaluation, the eventual geotechnical design, geohydrology and the site engineering. Soil and rock are highly complex and variable materials.

The expertise of the Delta Marine Consultants Geotechnical Engineers includes:

  • Piled foundations
  • Pile driveability analysis & dynamic load testing
  • Breakwaters and embankments
  • Site investigation

Digital Design & BIM Services

The Virtual Design & Drafting department provides all visual information about the design process. Drawings and visualisations are essential for the construction process to communicate about the design to all stakeholders in the design and construction.

We use BIM in the tender and construction phase. This practice leads to:

  • A cost effective concept that complies with the customer’s requirements;
  • A safe, relatively short and precise realization phase, with no fail-costs;
  • A structure that is maintainable throughout its lifespan.
